LRT3, officially known as the Shah Alam Line, is a medium-capacity, fully automated light rail transit line forming part of the Rapid KL network, aimed to enhance connectivity within the Klang Valley.

Pantai Cahaya Bulan, also known as PCB, is a popular beach destination in Kota Bharu, the capital city of Kelantan, Malaysia, easily accessible by car or taxi. The name translates to "Beach of the Moonlight" in Malay.

It was the landing site of the Japanese military's attack on the British on December 8, 1941. At one time, the beach was named Pantai Cinta Berahi, a name allegedly given by a British soldier who was stationed at the beach during World War II. The soldier was said to have been suffering from unrequited love at the time. Some locals still use this former name today, although they prefer to refer to the beach as PCB.

Activities

PCB is known for its long stretch of sandy beach, which is lined with coconut trees and a promenade. The beach is popular among locals and tourists alike, who come to enjoy the sun, sea, and sand. There are also several restaurants and cafes along the beach, offering a variety of local and international cuisines.

In addition to swimming and sunbathing, visitors can also enjoy water sports activities such as jet skiing, parasailing, and banana boat rides. There are also horseback riding and ATV rides available for those who prefer land-based activities.

Naning - district and former chiefdom, Melaka

The district of Naning, located in northern Melaka, Malaysia, has a historical significance dating back to its founding in 1370 by Sutan Jatang Balun, also known as Datuk Parpatih Nan Sebatang. Despite originally being part of Negeri Sembilan, the district was annexed into Melaka by the British during the Naning War of 1832, during a time when Melaka was under British control.

Today, Naning is a part of the Masjid Tanah constituency and is situated adjacent to Pulau Sebang, making it an interesting area for further research into the region's political and cultural history.

Naning-British War

The Naning-British War, a significant event in the history of Melaka and the Malay Peninsula, began in 1831 and lasted approximately two years until 1833. The root cause of the conflict was the British assertion of control over Naning, including a demand for 10% of the district's produce as tribute to Melaka.

Dol Said, the Penghulu of Naning at the time, was vehemently opposed to this claim and refused to comply, leading to a British attack on Naning in 1831. Despite being outnumbered, Dol Said managed to repel the initial assault with the aid of his allies, marking the first time the British had suffered a defeat in a war on the Malay Peninsula. However, in late 1832, the British returned with a larger force and, lacking support from his allies, Dol Said's army was eventually defeated and he was forced to surrender.

As a result, he was offered a pension and a residence in Melaka, highlighting the complex power dynamics and political negotiations of the time. Further research into this conflict could shed light on the tensions and conflicts between colonial powers and local rulers during the 19th century.

Today, Naning is recognized as the District of Alor Gajah and falls within the parliamentary constituency of Masjid Tanah, Alor Gajah, along with a smaller portion in Jasin. Within the municipal borders of Alor Gajah, the area of Taboh Naning can be found, adding to the historical and cultural significance of the region.

Kampung Portugis (EN: The Portuguese Settlement) is an area of Ujong Pasir in, Malacca, Malaysia, which serves as a home for the Kristang people. The Kristang people are a Malaysian ethnic group with mixed Portuguese and Malay heritage, originating from the time of the Portuguese rule in Malacca (16th to 17th century).

In 1933, 11 hectares of land at Malacca were purchased with the purpose of creating a haven for the scattered Kristang people. The swampy land was cleared and 10 wooden houses with earth floors and attap roofs were built. Saint John's village, as that simple fishing village was originally known, soon attracted additional Kristang from other areas of Malacca, and grew to become one of Malacca's main tourist attractions, improving the standard of living of its villagers.

Like many other Portuguese-speaking communities around the world, the Portuguese Settlement holds a yearly "June festival" that opens with Festa de São João ("Feast of Saint John", June 23) and closes with Festa de São Pedro ("Feast of Saint Peter", the fishermen's patron saint, June 29). This festival is attended by about 100,000 visitors from Malaysia and abroad. At the festival one can hear Kristang folk songs and watch dancers in colourful costumes perform to the rhythm of branyu music. An important event in the festival is the blessing of the local fishermen's boats, specially decorated for the occasion, to assure good catch.

The St. Peter's Church is a church in Melaka City, Melaka, Malaysia. It is the oldest functioning Roman Catholic Church in Malaysia.

The facade and decorations of the church have a combination of eastern and western architecture. One of its bells was cast in Goa in 1608 and was salvaged from an older church the Dutch had burnt down. There is also an alabaster statue of the Lord Before the Resurrection.

The Portuguese occupation of Melaka ended when Melaka fell to the Dutch in 1641. This was followed by period of persecutions of the Catholics in Melaka by the Dutch. Churches were destroyed and Catholics were not permitted to have their own cemeteries or even pray in their homes. Priests were also forbidden from administering their flocks. The war of the Spanish Succession resulted in an alliance formed between the Portuguese and the Dutch in 1703. This resulted in the Dutch adopting a softer stance towards the Portuguese Catholics. After years of persecutions, a piece of land was donated by a Dutch convert and the St. Peter's Church was built in 1710. [source]

Sarawak Islamic Heritage Museum (BM: Muzium Warisan Islam Sarawak) is a museum in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. The museum was originally constructed as the James Brooke Malay College school building. It was then later changed to the Madrasah Melayu Sarawak in 1930, located at Jalan P. Ramlee and was used specifically to train more teachers in higher-level Malay education.

In 1992, the building was converted into the Islamic Heritage Museum on 22 May 1992. [source]

Masjid Kampung Laut - one of the oldest mosque in Southeast Asia, Tumpat

Masjid Kampung Laut, located in Kelantan, Malaysia, is considered one of the oldest mosques in the country, although there is no definitive evidence of its construction date. It is estimated that the mosque was built either in the 15th or 18th century. Currently situated at Jalan Kuala Krai in Nilam Puri, the mosque is set to be relocated to its original location in Kampung Laut, Tumpat, and will be reopened to the public in June 2022.

History

Historical records suggest that Masjid Kampung Laut was constructed by a group of Champa government transporters from the Kingdom of Champa in the 15th century. The mosque's architectural style is typical of traditional local design, incorporating elements that are well-suited to the local climate, and bears remnants of once-dominant southern Indian Hindu architecture. The original mosque was built using basic architectural techniques, with four pillars forming the foundation and palm fronds serving as roofing materials.

Some historians have suggested that Masjid Kampung Laut was actually the original Masjid Agung Demak, which was built in 1401, due to similarities in architectural design. The mosque was relocated from its original site to Kampung Laut, and hence the name.

During the Kelantan Sultanate's reign from 1859 to 1900, Masjid Kampung Laut served as a crucial meeting point for both the sultans and religious leaders, and it was also utilized as a trading post. During this time, the mosque underwent significant expansion and upgrading, with the addition of 20 pillars, a three-tiered roof, a tower for the muezzin to call for prayers, an attic, and a water tank, while the flooring was constructed using high-quality timber. In May 1970, the mosque was handed over to the Kelantan Government under the administration of Menteri Besar Datuk Asri Muda.

The Masjid Zahir is a mosque in Alor Setar, Kota Setar, Kedah, Malaysia, and the state mosque of the state of Kedah. The Zahir Mosque is one of the grandest and oldest mosques in Malaysia, having been built in 1912. The Zahir Mosque has been voted as one of the top 10 most beautiful mosques in the world.

The mosque was built upon the tomb and grave of fallen Kedah warrior that die during Siamese invasion of Kedah.

Tambun rock art, is a series of neolithic paintings at the Gunung Panjang limestone hill in Tambun, on the outskirts of Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. The paintings were discovered on a rocky overhang in 1959 by 2/Lt R. L. Rawlings of the 2nd Battalion, 6th Queen Elizabeth's Own Gurkha Rifles.

Popularly known as the "Tambun Cave Paintings" (Lukisan Gua Tambun in Malay), the paintings could have been made by the ancestors of the Orang Asli and had spiritual importance. This site should not be confused with Gunung Tambun, another limestone hill that is found several kilometres to the north.

Description

The Tambun rock art is on a prominent rockface on the west face of Gunung Panjang, a large karstic hill, nearly 2 kilometres long, overlooking Ipoh and the Kinta valley. The hill comprises light grey marble belonging to the Devonian limestone of the Kinta Valley. The Tambun rock art site is the largest display of neolithic paintings in Asia. They are estimated to be between 2,000 and 12,000 years old.

The paintings were probably made using hematite. At the time of the discovery, the wide shelf at the base of the rock face was littered deep with empty, conical snail shells, all with their tips knocked off.

The site is not easily accessible to tourists as the path is overgrown and muddy and there is a steep flight of steps up to the site. [source]

The Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque (Bahasa : Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah) is the state mosque of Selangor, Malaysia. It is located in Shah Alam. It is the country's largest mosque and also the second largest mosque in Southeast Asia by capacity. Its most distinguishing feature is its large blue and silver dome. The mosque has four minarets, one erected at each of the corners.

History

The mosque was commissioned by the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz, when he declared Shah Alam as the new capital of Selangor on 14 February 1974. Construction began in 1982 and finished on 11 March 1988. The mosque is also known as the Blue Mosque owing to its blue dome.

Records

The mosque has the distinction of having the largest religious dome in the world, measuring 51.2 m (168 ft) in diameter and reaching 106.7 m (350 ft) above ground level. The four minarets, each reaching 142.3 m (467 ft) above ground level, are the third tallest in the world, after those at the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco, and the Djamaa el Djazaïr in Algiers, Algeria. In its early years, the mosque was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as having the tallest minaret in the world before being supplanted by the 210 m (690 ft) minaret at the Hassan II Mosque in August 1993. However, the mosque still maintains the distinction of having the world's tallest group of minarets.

Architecture and features

The design of the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque is a combination of Malay and Modernist styles. Fine decorative khat (Arabic calligraphy) can be seen on the inner curve of the dome and parts of the walls. The calligraphy work was executed by the Egyptian calligrapher Shiekh Abdel Moneim Mohamed Ali El Sharkawi. Intricate aluminium grills are found on the doorways, windows, and walls of the mosque. The windows are fitted with blue stained glass to reduce the amount of light entering the hall. The resulting filtered illumination lends a bluish ambiance to the interior spaces, evoking a sense of peace and serenity. The high ceiling has triangular panels of red balau and ramin timber wood that are set in a crisscrossing pattern. The dome is constructed of aluminium and the outer surface is clad with vitreous enamel-baked triangular steel panels decorated with a rosette of verses from the Qur'an.

The main prayer hall spans two levels, is fully carpeted and air conditioned, and is one of the largest such spaces in the world. The upper gallery of the prayer hall is reserved for female worshippers, and the ground floor contains the reception area, administrative offices, conference rooms, a library, and lecture rooms. The mosque has the capacity to accommodate 12,600 worshippers and is large enough that on a clear day it can be seen from some vantage points in Kuala Lumpur. [reference]

99-Door Mansion (Caledonian House), 1917 - most haunted house in Penang

99-Door Mansion is an early 20th century estate manor in Nibong Tebal, Seberang Perai, Penang. According to the number on top of the house, it was built in 1917. The two-storey mansion has ten rooms and is said to have a total of ninety doors.

The 99-Door Mansion is located in the midst of Byram Estate (or perhaps Victoria Estate), an estate which began as a sugar cane plantation in the 19th century. Its actual name is most likely Caledonian House. Around 1880, a drop in the commodity prices of sugar compelled the estate to switch from sugar cane to rubber. In the 1960's, low commodity price for rubber forced another switch, to palm oil.

There are a lot of broken furniture scattered throughout the house and refuse everywhere. The staircase to the upper floor is boarded up to prevent trespassers from going upstairs. There are grafitti on the walls all around the house. At the rear side of the house is a toilet, probably for the use of the caretaker.

The 99-Door Mansion actually looks more like a school than a residence. The rooms on either wings of the mansion appear like classrooms. In all likelihood, it might have been used as a school, a notion that still need to be researched. [source]

Royal Belum - 130 million year old rainforest, Perak

Belum-Temengor is the largest continuous forest complex in Peninsular Malaysia. Specifically, it is located in the Malaysian state of Perak (Hulu Perak) and crosses into Southern Thailand. Belum-Temenggor is divided into two sections. Belum is located up north right by the Malaysia-Thailand border while Temenggor is south of Belum. The Royal Belum State Park is entirely contained within the forest complex. Bang Lang National Park is on the Thailand side of the border.

Belum-Temenggor is believed to have been in existence for over 130 million years, making it one of the world's oldest rainforests, older than both the Amazon and the Congo. In the heart of the forest lies the manmade lake of Tasik Temenggor, covering 15,200 Hectares which is dotted with hundreds of islands.

Belum-Temenggor's relatively untouched forest is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna including 14 of the world's most threatened mammals including the Malayan tiger, indian elephant, white handed gibbon, Malaysian sunbear and tapir. Other animals include seladang, wild boars, numerous species of deer, pythons and cobras. [source]

Masjid Negeri Sultan Abu Bakar is the state mosque of Johor, Malaysia. Located along Jalan Skudai, Johor Bahru, the mosque was constructed between 1892 and 1900, under the direction of Sultan Abu Bakar.

As the mosque's architect, Tuan Haji Mohamed Arif bin Punak set out to recreate colonial English Victorian architecture as noted by the minarets that take the form of British 19th century clocktowers. The mosque also features some Moorish architecture elements, along with some minor Malay influence. Tuan Haji Mohamed Arif bin Punak was supervised by the Johor government engineer Dato' Yahya bin Awalluddin who communicated the Anglophile sentiments of Sultan Ibrahim ibni Sultan Abu Bakar, the Sultan of Johor at that time.

This Anglophile influence can further be seen in the British architectural influences not only on the Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque but also in several others government and palace buildings in Johor constructed during the same period.

The mosque sits on top of a prominent hill, overlooking the Straits of Johor and was named for Sultan Abu Bakar, the father of Sultan Ibrahim who ordered its construction. It can accommodate 2,000 worshippers at any one time. [source]

Anuar's Fish Head Curry (also known Bangsar Fish Head Corner) is a food stall at Lucky Garden that commands a large customer base thanks to two of their signature dishes: fish head curry and mamak-style fried chicken.

Affordability is one of the reasons they are so popular. For RM3 you get to enjoy a serving of fried chicken (or fried fish) rice with tangy fish curry gravy, okra and lightly cooked bean sprouts. It's hard to believe that you can have a filling lunch in Bangsar at this price, but it does exist

They are extremely busy especially during lunch hours and a long queue is a normal sight. Luckily the service is quick so the line moves fairly quick

The aroma of seasoning and spices immediately hits you before you even reach the stall. Batches and batches of chicken are fried non-stop to cater to the crowd.

For those looking for a more satisfying meal, fried squid (with rice) is priced at RM7 while fish head curry is between RM30 to RM80 depending on the size.
