Urupukapuka Bay Campsite is the largest campsite on the island. Tent sites are along the beach front and are divided into four zones:

Oyster Catcher: maximum 80 people, 20 tent sites
NZ Dotterel: maximum 80 people, 20 tent sites
Kukupa: maximum 60 people, 15 tent sites
Cattle Yard: maximum 20 people, 5 tent sites

Whatipu Lodge and Campground - camper, caravans, lodges and tents, Auckland

The Whatipu Campground contains numerous spacious, flat campsites. In peak camping periods we do get busy but to-date we have not been full.

As there are no allocated camping sites, the campground operates on a 1st in, best spot, basis. The campground facilities are simple. There is no electricity or hot water. There are three composting toilets, two cold showers and several water taps.

Macetown Campsite - 4x4 camper and tents, Macetown

Camp in Macetown, one of Otago’s most intact historic goldfield towns. Walk, bike or 4WD around the township or up the valley to the Homeward Bound Stamper Battery.

Getting there

Follow Macetown Road 15 km up the Arrow River from Arrowtown. Walking time 3-4 hours one way, Mountain Biking 1-2 hours one way.

Rough gravel, 4WD road with 23 river crossings - at times impassable.

Child (5–17 years): $4 per night

Pay cash on arrival at the self-registration stand at the campsite. There is a maximum of seven days per stay for this site.

Passes

The DOC/NZMCA Campsite Pass can be used at this campsite.

Backcountry Hut Passes cannot be used at this campsite.

Off SH7, 20 km east of Springs Junction.
